ARTS collective Cradley Heath Creative is getting ship shape for a groundbreaking artistic project on the Black Country's canals.

On Saturday artists from the group will board the 72 foot Aaron Manby narrow boat and create art and encourage people to get involved.

The event is part of Birmingham's Ikon Gallery's Black Country Voyages project which is bringing art to young people through the canal network.

Creative Cradley Heath is made up of artists, historians writers, musicians, sculptures, designers and other people in the creative industries who pool resources for the good of Cradley Heath.

Kate Self, who help found Black Country Voyages, said: "We are really looking forward to seeing what Creative Cradley Heath has in store for everyone on Saturday.

"The group have been with us from the start so we are delighted they are having the day on the boat and creating new art whilst they are on board."

Artist Fran Wilde, chairman of Creative Cradley Heath, said: "We are really looking forward to Saturday and hopefully lots of people will get involved as they see us on the canal."

The boat will be setting off around 10am at Bumblehole and will navigate the canals until it reaches Parkhead Canal Festival at 4pm.
