GROT spots, crime and anti-social behaviour are being tackled in Oldbury his week at the start of Sandwell Council’s latest Safer 6 campaign.

The annual project, linking the council, emergency services and voluntary groups, aims to make borough’s towns clean and safe as the nights draw in.

The first of six weeks of targeted action and community safety work is focusing on Oldbury.

Volunteers from Sandwell Crime Prevention Panel and Neighbourhood Watch will be on hand to give advice in the foyer of Sainsbury's, throughout the event and the Integrated Recovery in Services will give information on drug and alcohol services.

Sandwell Police Chief Inspector Sean Phillips said: “Organisations will work with the community to identify issues, tackle crime and anti-social behaviour, clean up 'grot spots', address areas of vulnerability and promote safety and crime prevention to people of all ages.”

The campaign is also working with young people to help keep them safe, including the council’s Youth Bus touring the towns.

The spotlight will be turned on Rowley Regis the week starting October 13.
