A SELL-OUT concert is set to raise the roof tonight as hundreds of people come together to support a Halesowen teenager paralysed from the neck down by meningitis.

The plight of Grace Kalinski, aged 18, who was struck down by the devastating disease in February, has touched the hearts of many.

Tonight family friend Susan Batty will have her head shaved during a break in the gig, featuring her husband Alan’s popular band The Commandments, at Stourbridge River Rooms.

Around 340 tickets have been sold for the event at which X Factor star Kriss Marco will also perform.

Mrs Batty, a cancer survivor also from Halesowen, who lost her hair during chemotherapy treatment in 1995, has already raised £1,800 in sponsorship.

The 65-year-old, of Blackberry Lane, said: “I am thrilled that my hair has raised so much. The thought of having it cut off doesn’t bother me – I lost it before because I had no choice and this time I had a choice.”

She has also collected dozens of raffle prizes and added her thanks to all those who have sponsored her, donated prizes and bought tickets. It is hoped to raise more than £4,000.

Grace, who is battling to recover in a specialist unit at Southport District General Hospital, will decide where to send the proceeds.

Her friends will also be collecting money at Asda in Halesowen on Saturday and Sunday (October 11 and 12) in aid of the Meningitis Trust.
