A SUNDAY Friends club set up in Halesowen proved a popular idea attracting more than 20 members to its launch.
Jean Green founded the club in August for people on their own for whom Sundays can be the loneliest day of the week.
She was surprised to receive 23 calls from people wanting to join after her idea was highlighted in the News.
Members have enjoyed meals out and trips to Hagley Hall, the Belbroughton Scarecrow Weekend and the Dudley Boating Festival.
Mrs Green, aged 64, said the club was growing steadily with two members bringing along a friend each last week, but she is keen for even more members to join.
She said: “Sunday can be a difficult day if you are on your own and many said they related to this and that it was nice to make new friends and have something to look forward to.”
Mrs Green, of Quantock Close, added: “Individuals come up with different ideas and next week we are planning a trip to the glassworks in Stourbridge.”
There is no age restriction – current members range from their 50s to 80s – and they meet the first Sunday of the month at the Maypole Pub, Bassnage Road, at 1pm as well as organising weekly outings.
