CHAMPION Old Hill charity fundraiser Tim Wright is celebrating after the brass band concert he organised for charity hit the right note.

The 54-year-old boosted funds for the Georgina Leukaemia Unit appeal at Russells Hall Hospital and Holy Trinity Church despite battling with Hodgkins Lymphoma himself.

Tim organised a brass band concert at the Halesowen Road church earlier this month which raised well over £2,000.

He said: "The concert was brilliant. The band have already asked if they can play at the venue again, because acoustically, it was superb.

"There were also plenty of members in the audience asking if we would be staging another one, it went down that well".

The fundraiser split the proceeds between both causes and hasn't ruled out staging another concert in the New Year.

Ahead of that Tim must attend the QE Hospital in Birmingham next week for a third party stem cell transplant which he hopes will save his life.

He has already undergone four different chemotherapy attempts, but with little success.

Now a stem cell donor has been found in Germany and they will be flown over on Sunday ahead of his transplant which is scheduled for the following day.

Despite his illness, it hasn't stopped Tim from organising charity events with the help of family, friends and work colleagues.

Prior to this month's concert, Tim had already raised £3,250 for the Georgina Appeal and another £1500 for Cancer UK.

This week Tim added another £1,135 to the Georgina Appeal while Holy Trinity's Repair and Regeneration Fund benefitted to the tune of £1,182 as a result of the brass band concert.

The concert was built around Rugby based Bilton Silver Band, of which his daughter Amy is a member and gave a solo performance on the evening.
