DUDLEY Council’s office of public health is supporting national HIV testing week to highlight that one in four people in the UK are unaware they have the virus.
The campaign aims to raise awareness of HIV and to encourage anyone who thinks they have put themselves at risk to get tested.
Summit House Support will be out and about during the week delivering a number of awareness sessions.
The team will be at Heroes Health Club in Lower High Street, Stourbridge, tomorrow (Tuesday November 25) offering rapid HIV testing and sexual health advice for gay and bisexual men from 1pm to 4.30pm.
They will also be raising awareness for World AIDS Day on Wednesday (November 26) at Halesowen College’s health and environment fayre from 9am to 4.30pm and at Dudley Library on Thursday (November 27) from 9am to 3pm.
Drop in sessions will also take place on Friday (November 28) at Atlantic House in Lye.
Councillor Rachel Harris, cabinet member for health, said: “It’s a staggering statistic, one in four people with HIV don’t even know, that’s why it’s so important if you think you’ve put yourself at risk to get tested.
“There’s lots of help, support and advice available in the borough so if you’re concerned make a call or visit Summit House Support’s website to get more information.”
