The half sister of a teenager who had acid thrown in her face as she stood on the doorstep of a friend’s Oldbury home has admitted she lied to police about who was responsible for the horrific attack Vikki Horsman was left scarred for life after the incident which it alleged was orchestrated by Mohammed Rafiq - her former 80-year-old lover after she told him she wanted to end their relationship.

Miss Horsman, a carer now aged 20, suffered “terrible” burns to her face, neck and arm when she went to the front door of the property in MacDonald Close.

But afterwards, Wolverhampton Crown Court was told, Ceri Parkes who had also been in a relationship with the pensioner made a statement to police blaming someone else for the acid attack.

Mr Anthony Warner prosecuting said Parkes later admitted every word was false and she had since pleaded guilty to perverting the course of justice.

In evidence Parkes told the jury she made the statement because she was scared of Rafiq adding, “He stated that if I did not do what he wanted there would be consequences”

She said Rafiq asked her to go to his home in Cheshire Road, Smethwick the day after her half sister was badly burned by the acid.

“Raf asked me to make a false statement to the police blaming somebody I had never met,” said Miss Parkes.”He told me what to write. He gave me a piece of paper on which I wrote down the things he wanted me to say.”

She told the court how she got into a sexual relationship with Rafiq that lasted about two years and it ended when she began going out with another man.

“He stopped talking to me for a while,” she went on. “After about a month he started talking to me again. I saw him occasionally after that and I introduced Vikki to him about two years ago.”

It has been alleged that the spurned Rafiq became extremely angry when Vikki Horsman told him she wanted move on in her life and he then planned the acid attack.

Rafiq; Shannon Heaps 23 of Queens Avenue, Tividale and 25 year old Steven Holmes of Allan Close,Smethwick have all denied inflicting grievous bodily harm on Miss Horsman with intent. Rafiq has further pleaded not guilty to perverting the course of justice and the trial of the three men which is expected to last for three weeks is continuing.
