BOOKWORMS at a Cradley Heath school will now be learning in style after a brand new library and learning zone was opened.

Temple Meadow Primary School's new learning zone has all the mod cons and is designed to help young minds excel with both computers and books.

Headteacher Cathy Walsh is delighted with the new addition to the school.

She said: "Our pupils were really excited about the launch of their new learning zone which creates an exciting environment to celebrate reading, research and learning.

"Our aim is to encourage reading for pleasure and our learning zone is really bright and colourful and showcases lots of our irresistible learning outcomes on a huge display wall."

She added: "Children will have dedicated library sessions as well as opportunities to independently use it over lunch times.

"We encourage browsing, research and computer research and there are even comfy sofas and rugs to curl up with a good book."

The school is hoping the learning zone will foster a love of books which will stay with the children into adulthood.

Mrs Walsh said: "Our aim is to create a really vibrant space that supports developing a lifelong love of reading."

The books in the library were also hand picked to appeal to children and their interests.

She added: "Our head boys and head girls helped choose many of the new book titles."

And the headteacher believes the new learning zone will help the entire school improve it's standard of learning.

She said: "Within the curriculum we utilise drama, role play, mantle of the expert and plenty of art and design to bring learning alive.

"Throughout the school we have stunning displays which showcase the learning including fabulous writing outcomes from our topics."

She added: "Our last Ofsted judged us as good overall which was a fantastic achievement and we are now continuing our hard work and efforts in order to build on this."
