THE CONSERVATIVE Party has sensationally suspended its Dudley North candidate Afzal Amin just weeks before the General Election.

Revelations in tomorrow's Mail on Sunday linking the Muslim ex-Army candidate with the far right English Defence League prompted the suspension of Mr Amin.

A Conservative spokesman tonight said: "Following an emergency meeting, it has been decided unanimously to suspend him as a candidate with immediate effect.

“The Conservative Party views this this as a matter of extremely serious concern."

Conservative top brass are seething with Mr Amin as Dudley North is one of the most important targets in the country as sitting MP Ian Austin only won by 649 votes in 2010.

Mr Amin allegedly offered to do the EDL's bidding in Parliament if he was elected as MP.

A Conservative Party source said: "Afzal Amin has shown himself to be absolutely abhorrent, so it's no surprise that the Party acted swiftly to cut the head off this snake.

"Let's not forget that Amin is a candidate who previously accused the Conservative Party of being institutionally racist.

“Yet he has been exposed as trying to bribe a far-right organisation to get himself elected.

The source added: "Amin had fantasies of bringing the EDL out of the shadows and into Parliament.

“Thankfully, he has been exposed as a duplicitous charlatan who has no place in either the Conservative Party or public life."

An emergency meeting was held today (Saturday) by the Tory party's Candidates Committee and a full hearing will take place on Tuesday when Mr Amin will be invited to give his explanation concerning the alleged links to the EDL.

The committee will then decide whether to axe him as a candidate before electing a new candidate. The News spoke to Mr Amin tonight but he refused to comment on the story.
