PETROL could rise by between 7p and 8p a gallon in the Budget, the
Retail Motor Industry Federation forecast yesterday. It said that it was
vital that the Budget should not contain any more car-related taxes if
the motor industry was to recover. ''A 7p to 8p hike in petrol prices is
the right way to go,'' said the federation's economic affairs director,
Mr Neil Marshall.
