How many more motorists must die on the A737 Howwood bypass before

Strathclyde Regional Council admits to a fundamental design flaw in its

new road and, more importantly, rectifies it?

Not only do we have the ludicrous turn-off at Kilbarchan but drivers

unfamiliar with the new stretch between Kilbarchan and Howwood cannot be

blamed for thinking there is a dual carriageway, quite simply because it

looks like and feels like one.

It seems that Strathclyde Regional Council roads department has simply

pulled a standard dual carriageway design out of its plans cabinet and

thrown half of it away.

A central reservation is essential, but in the short term double solid

white lines must be painted in order to stop further unnecessary

tragedies.
