UNDECIDED voters will get two chances to see the candidates in the battle for Halesowen and Rowley Regis debate the issues.

Next week there are hustings at the Haden Cross Inn, Cradley Heath, on Tuesday and Halesowen's Zion Christian Centre on Friday.

Polls are still very tight as the May 7 General Election approaches and the result could be decided on who is successful at the hustings.

Julie Mills, who is helping organise the Zion debate, said: "The Churches of Halesowen have invited all local parliamentary candidates to attend a Hustings on Friday, April 24, 7.30pm at Zion Christian Centre.

"Come and find out what they stand for and ask questions, be informed and be involved and members of the public are most welcome to attend."

Tim Haskey, chairman of the Friends of Haden Cross Inn, is looking forward to the event.

He said: "We expect it to be a very popular husting debate at the Haden Cross on Tuesday at 7.30pm, hosted at the Haden Cross by the licensee Laura Eden, organised and chaired by the Friends of Haden Cross.

"Confirmed candidates attending are James Morris (Con), Stephanie Peacock (Lab) and Dean Perks (UKIP), John Payne (Greens) and hopefully Peter Tyzack (LibDem).

"With the polls being so close, we expect the event to be well attended and advise people to arrive early – it is likely to be standing room only in the bar, with the lounge as overflow."

He added: "The format with be general introduction with a two minute intro from each candidate, with the order to be agreed by lots on the day. There will then be a question related to pubs, giving context to the venue and the friends campaign.

"It will then be an open debate for the public, with no further pre-planned questions for around 45/50 minutes or so before closing."

He added: "After that, the candidates and their activists will remain in the pub until 9.30/10.00pm to be able to answer any individual questions that the audience may have, giving people who may not have the confidence to ask openly the opportunity to do so."
