A HALESOWEN man, who took his girlfriend’s car without consent, planned to use stolen registration plates to fill up with petrol from a service station and drive off without paying.

Wolverhampton Crown Court was told Paul Drew was stopped by police driving an Audi in West Bromwich and admitted his plan.

The 28-year-old, of Vicarage Road, pleaded guilty to taking a vehicle without consent and stealing the set of number plates.

Drew, who has previous convictions for offences including burglary and theft from vehicles, was sentenced to four months in prison suspended for two years.
