THE first king and queen of Halesowen’s revived carnival will be announced at a fun day on Sunday May 3.

But there will be no prince and princes to complete the ‘royal family’ after organisers failed to attract a single entry to the competition.

Carnival chairman Simon Walker was staying upbeat despite the disappointment.

He said: “I am pleased that we got entries for the king and queen which counter balanced the lack of entries for the prince and princess. I least we got something.”

Several entries were received from males and females in their late teens wanting to represent the town at the carnival on Saturday July 4.

They had to show they had community spirit or had done something to help others.

The winners have been chosen by the carnival committee but their identity is being kept secret until Sunday’s event at the Hasbury Inn.

The fun day – which will raise money to cover the costs of staging the carnival at Huntingtree Park – will include live bands and singers, children’s rides, stalls, a barbecue, karaoke and disco.

Activities will kick off at noon and go until late with bands Rock Solid and Duchess performing an evening gig.
