ORANISERS hailed Saturday’s OH Festival a triumph with an estimated 1,000 people lining the parade route and crowds of more than 5,000 packing the showground.

A piper led the veterans and cadets and a host of fun characters, bands and entertainers on the parade from Old Hill’s Highgate Street to Spring Meadow.

Visitors were treated to an afternoon of displays, stalls, side shows, a funfair and music festival.

Co-organiser Lisa Saunders said: “It was fantastic and the weather was in our favour. Everything went well and the bands and other entertainers were fantastic.

“People told me they really enjoyed themselves.”

The event was the seventh annual festival in Old Hill to support “Our Heroes” – the servicemen and women injured and maimed in conflicts abroad.

The proceeds will go to the Birmingham’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital, where many of the soldiers are treated and Sandwell mayor councillor Barbara Price’s chosen charity Acorns Children’s Hospice.
