AN “inspirational” Oldbury teenager was killed in a motorbike crash on his way to Eid celebrations at his family home.

Suhail Yousaf had paid his respects to deceased family and friends at Sandwell Crematorium and was on his way home when he lost control of his bike on Saturday and hit a give way sign.

The accident happened around 1.40pm in Alma Street, close to the junction with Tollhouse Way, Smethwick.

His older brother Aamir, aged 23, was one of the first on the scene after seeing him lying in the road as he travelled in a car along Tollhouse Way.

Other family – including his parents Sophia and Parvez - were quickly on the scene after receiving a phone call to say there had been an accident.

Close friend Sarki Ali, aged 23, from Smethwick, said the family had been waiting for him at their Seymour Road home just a couple of miles from crash site to start the Eid celebrations.

He said Suhail, a Sandwell College student, had gone to the crematorium in West Bromwich because it was the end of Ramadan.

Mr Ali said: “His brother touched his face and it was covered in blood. It seemed to take ages for the ambulance to arrive and we were there while they tried to resuscitate him.

“There was hope for a few seconds, but there was nothing they could do.”

Mr Ali, who had known Suhail all his life, said the teenager had been an “inspiration”.

“He would always be the first one to try help others and I have learned from him, even though I am older,” he added.

Suhail loved his motorbike, which he had been riding for about a year, and bikers from Birmingham-based Full Time Riders rode to the crash site to pay their respects and left a club T-shirt among the many floral tributes.

The teenager, who also had sisters Ruby, aged 21 and Sanah, aged 17, attended Holyhead High School, Handsworth, before going to college to study mechanics.

He had also been a member of the Windmill Amateur Boxing Club with Mr Ali.

West Midlands Police are appealing witnesses to the accident at about 1.40pm to contact them on 101.
