TROUBLED peer Lord Sewel has resigned from the House of Lords after allegations he took drugs with prostitutes.
The former deputy speaker of the House faced a barrage of calls for him to go after The Sun ran a series of stories claiming he took cocaine with hookers by snorting the powder from a woman’s breasts, was apparently pictured wearing an orange bra and claimed to have had sex with a happily married BBC presenter in an attic.
He has this morning written to the Clerk of the Parliaments saying he apologised and hoped to limit the damage the revelations have caused.
Elsewhere, the Prime Minister is today going to announce a new initiative to tackle corruption by cracking down on foreign buyers purchasing expensive London homes with “plundered or laundered cash”.
In a speech in Singapore, David Cameron will say the government is to publish Land Registry data later this year, setting out which foreign companies own land and property in England and Wales.
