A COMMUNITY day is being held at a Colley Gate club on Saturday (August 8) centred on the folksong legend John Barleycorn.
The character is a personification of the cereal grain crop barley and of the alcoholic drinks beer and whisky made from it.
In celebration of the day at The Laurels, Marstons have produced a special four per cent proof ale The Laurels John Barleycorn.
Dudley’s deputy mayor Councillor Mohammed Hanif will open the community day at noon and activities will include a demonstration of making corn and peg dollies and cornflake cakes.
There will also be a car boot sale on the car park and table top sale inside the Windmill Hill club.
Chris Legiewicz, from The Laurels, said “This event is open to all and if it is successful will become an annual event.”
