Black Country firefighters rescued a man who was stuck 10 metres up a tree in Wollescote on Saturday afternoon.

West Midlands Fire Service crews from Stourbridge, Oldbury and its Technical Rescue division were assisted by the HART team of West Midlands Ambulance Service.

The emergency services started their rescue at around 3.30pm in the afternoon and just before 5pm were making the area safe following the successful rescue.

Police have released CCTV footage of a car they believe was involved in a fatal hit-and-run collision in Oldbury.

Antony Maskell, known as Tony, was walking along the dual carriageway on Birchfield Lane just before midnight on July 30 when he was hit by a vehicle − just outside the Whiteheath Tavern.

He was taken to hospital with serious head injuries but died the following day.

An Alvechurch man has been sentenced to 13 years in jail following a number of violent and sexual assaults.

Stuart Bayley, 33, of Randall Avenue, Alvechurch, was sentenced at Worcester Crown Court for two counts of sexual activity with a child, rape, harassment, inflicting grievous bodily harm, wounding, battery and making threats to kill.

Some of the offences date back to 2003.

A new 24 hour electric vehicle chargepoint has been unveiled at Kidderminster’s Weavers Wharf Shopping Centre.

Worcestershire County Council hope the chargepoint will encourage residents to switch to more environmentally friendly motors.

The Kidderminster-based site, where parking charges apply, will allow drivers to stay in the charging bay for up to an hour and is one of 12 rapid chargepoints installed across the county.

Free wifi will soon be in more Dudley Council buildings than ever before following a huge roll out scheme.

Currently, people visiting libraries can get free wifi on their mobile, tablets, laptops and other devices, but the council is extending the range of buildings where people can access wifi with the launch of DudleyConnect.

Buildings which will be added to the list include The Council House, Dudley Council Plus, Himley Hall, Priory Hall, Dudley and Stourbridge Town Halls, Cornbow Hall, in Halesowen, The Dell Stadium, in Brierley Hill, Mary Stevens Park Cafe, as well as borough leisure centres.

A dad of two who drove at high speed for more than 40 miles after smashing into the back of a lorry has been given a suspended jail sentence.

The passenger side of Michael McCluskey's Vauxhall Vectra was stoved in and the windscreen smashed yet he drove on in a panic, Gloucester Crown Court was told.

The 30-year-old even stopped for the petrol, but drove on.

A car which was on fire in a Belbroughton street on Saturday afternoon (August 22) has been put out by firefighters from Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service.

Crews from the Bromsgrove fire station were alerted at 4.42pm and attended the incident in Madeley Road.

The fire had also spread and affected five metres of a nearby hedgerow.
