A KIND-hearted Oldbury woman has launched a fundraising campaign in aid of a homeless charity that supported her.

Emma Turner, aged 29, sought help from St Basil’s, Birmingham, eight years ago when she was affected by family breakdown.

Now the awards and administration support officer is saying “thank you” with an online bid to raise money to buy items including toiletries and bedding for young people using the charity’s Nightstop service, provide emergency accommodation.

She is appealing for people to contribute items as well and her list also features, nightwear, jogging bottoms, socks and underwear.

St Basil’s helps young people across the region offering emergency accommodation, support, guidance and advice.

Miss Turner said: “As well as economic factors, young people are most likely to become homeless due to relationship and family breakdown. In some cases this is due to domestic violence.

“Many in need of emergency accommodation have not had the time to pack toiletries or even a change of clothes.”

She has already raised £270 and has used some of the money on toiletries for the charity. A youth project in Leicester is also donating 124 items, including toiletries and bedding for her to give to St Basil’s.

Miss Turner said: “They supported me and got me integrated back into society and I now I am in a position to help them.”

She added: “My aim is to provide as many items as I possibly can to help these young people take the next steps.”

Her appeal will continue for another month-and-a-half and she hopes to run regular campaigns for St Basil’s.
