More than 1,500 residents enjoyed the great outdoors as they braved wet weather at the annual Dudley Borough Trail.

Organiser hailed last weekend's event a success as 1,700 people took part despite typically gloomy Bank Holiday weather.

Residents put on their best walking shoes for the 27th annual event which included 18 and 26-mile walks alongside six, nine and 12-mile gentle strolls.

The event kicked off at 8am last Sunday (May 6) with the longer walks.

Last Sunday's walks also brought the curtain down on the week-long Dudley Walking Festival, which ran from Saturday April 28 until Sunday May 6.

Treks available during the event included a guided tour through Himley Park, morning and evenining Bluebell Walks in Saltwells Nature Reserve and an evening bat walk around Baggeridge Country Park.

The Mayor of Dudley councillor John Woodall and Mayoress Audrey Woodall attended the day.

Sally Piazzalunga, principle leisure officer from Dudley Council, said the event was a great success.
