ONE Direction have been named artist of the year at the American Music Awards, just months before they are due to go on a hiatus.

The band also picked up a gong for favourite pop or rock duo or group at the ceremony at the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles.

They are due to take an extended break in March 2016 and while accepting the awards said they are looking forward to spending time with loved ones.

SINGER Jamelia said she was “sorry to go” as she became the eighth celebrity to leave Strictly Come Dancing.

The Loose Women panellist and her professional partner Tristan MacManus ended up in the dance-off alongside Peter Andre and his partner Janette Manrara.

Jamelia told presenters Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman that her Strictly experience had been “fantastic”.

The Doctor, their old friend Rigsy and Clara – who is played by Jenna Coleman – found themselves in a magical alien world, hidden on a street in the heart of London.

ADELE'S new album is on course to be one of the UK’s best-selling albums in one week after it reached 300,000 sales by midnight on its first day.

25 was released on Thursday and is set to challenge Take That’s Progress and Oasis’ Be Here Now for a place in the Official Chart history books for the record number of sales within seven days of release.

ANTON Stephans declared he had had “the time of my life” on The X Factor as he became the latest person to be eliminated from the ITV show.

The 44-year-old from Suffolk sang I Can’t Make You Love Me and he was absolutely right as the judge’s votes three to one to send Che Chesterman through instead after a sing-off.

Mason Noise was also kicked off during a flash vote at the end of Saturday’s show.
