PRIMARY schools in Dudley and Sandwell have again improved results with 80 per cent of pupils leaving with at least a level 4 in reading, writing and maths.

This year has seen a two per cent rise for both boroughs in the key stage 2 results which now puts their primary pupils in-line with the national average.

Cradley CE Primary School tops the league table in Dudley borough with 100 per cent of pupils achieving level 4 or above in reading, writing and maths.

Lutley Primary School, Halesowen, is close behind in second place with a score of 99 per cent, followed by the town’s Howley Grange Primary in third place with 97 per cent and Manor Way Primary in fifth place with 75 per cent of pupils making the grade.

Lightwoods Primary School, Oldbury, and Cradley Heath’s Corngreaves Academy both score 97 per cent, coming third and fourth in Sandwell’s league table respectively, with Old Hill Primary School in sixth place with a score of 96 per cent.

Sandwell’s cabinet member for children's services Councillor Simon Hackett said the results were “fantastic”, reflecting why 84 per cent of primary schools in the borough are rated ‘good’ or ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted.

He added: "We are delighted with these results and the improvements made in our primary schools.

"It's so important that children in Sandwell get the best start to their education.

"These results show how well our primary schools are doing and I want to thank the children, school staff, parents and carers for all their hard work."

Three schools in each borough fell below the Government’s 65 per cent floor target, none of which were in the News’ circulation area.
