A CHRISTIAN centre has collected 1,800 festive treats for Halesowen people in need after asking people to “stuff the sleigh” for at Sunday’s festive productions.

Around 1,100 people flocked to the Zion Christian Centre to watch one of four showings of music, dance and carols throughout the day.

Around 30 members took part in the Stuff the Sleigh shows, which were staged in The Venue, a temporary hub for church activities on the Little Cornbow site, created after the main building was hit by a major blaze three months ago.

Senior pastor Rev Leon Evans said: “There was such a lot of generosity from the community after the fire that we wanted to give something back.”

He added: “We were really overwhelmed by people’s generosity, not just in their giving, but the quality of the items was outstanding.”

Volunteers are this week parcelling up the treats such as chocolates, biscuits and cake, into 500 hampers which will be delivered through 13 distributing organisations including the Black Country Foodbank, children’s centre, the Hope Centre and schools.
