A MOCK UFO crash at an Oldbury primary school inspired pupils to create a deluge of stories, poems, and reports.

Children and parents could hardly believe their eyes when they arrived after the Christmas break to firefighters and police charging into their playground at Lightwoods Primary School to deal with the alien crash.

English co-ordinator Matthew Priest said it was a “fantastic hook” to inspire the children to complete work of a very high standard.

He said: “It caused a real stir as they turned up for school and the atmosphere was really buzzing all day with excitement. They were so keen to write down their ideas.”

Year four wrote newspaper reports on the crash, whilst others from reception to year six wrote stories, poems, police reports and instructions.

Their work was shared with parents last Friday and Mr Priest said they had been very impressed by the quality of the work and thought the project was a great way to start the term.

Year four pupils Jeevan Jalaf, aged nine, and Ella Fineschi, aged eight, record the event with watch commander Mark Edwards and firefighters Dave Giles and Pete Carter.
