PARENTS of children at a Halesowen primary school are furious at plans by Windsor High School to delete their privileged status from its admissions policy.

The secondary school wants to remove a stipulation that where demand for places exceeds supply, pupils from Lutley Primary School will be given preference.

Special needs and looked-after children, siblings of Windsor pupils and proximity to home are the other criteria used for admitting pupils in the event of over subscription.

Lutley’s headteacher Rebecca Cox refused to give her view on the bid to remove her pupils from the criteria.

But she said it had been in introduced a few years ago because some children living on the catchment boundary were being given places in secondary schools some distance away.

Mrs Cox said the school governors had sent a response to Windsor’s consultation over the proposed change, which, if approved, will come into effect in 2017/18.

Lutley’s Parent Teacher and Friends’ Association has also urged parents to send their comments to the secondary school.

Parent Donna Mullis, summed up feelings on the association’s Facebook page with the comment: “They need to decide if we are a feeder school or not and stick to it.

She added: “They can't keep changing the goalposts.”

Lorraine Gaskell, responsible for admissions at Windsor High School said: “The consultation process is now complete and there is now a month’s period until the end of February in which any responses will need to be considered.

“This forms part of the required process and only after that time are we allowed to be able to make any comment.”

A Dudley Council spokesman said it was not illegal for a school to stipulate a preference and, as an academy, Windsor was free to draw up its own admissions policy.
