ST George's Day promises to be one to remember in Halesowen this year with St John the Baptist Church taking centre stage.

Halesowen Parish Church is holding its annual spring fair on Saturday, April 23 and throwing the doors open of the town's most historic building to the public.

The church's bell tower, which boasts the best views of the town, is also going to be open for guided tours and Halesowen's bellringers will be performing a quarter peel for 45 minutes to celebrate England's patron saint.

Bellringer Andrew Crumpton said: "Dudley town has its wheel but in Halesowen we have one of the most beautiful buildings in the world.

"When lit up at night our church is seen for miles around, people know they are home when they see the church and hear the bells but on St George's Day they will get the chance to see inside and go up the bell tower."

He added: "The top of the tower has been the best view of the town for centuries and we will be encouraging people to take photos and share them on social media.

"However, people should come early to tour the tower as there are limited spaces."

There will be stalls, games and crafts and arts at the church's annual spring fair.

Mr Crumpton said: "The church spring fair will be brilliant too and gives people the chance to have a brew and have a look around the building, which is everyone's."

There will be tours of the bell towers at 11am, noon and 2pm and the spring fair will run from 10.30am until 3pm.

In Hagley at 7.30pm there will be a concert for St George at St John's Church, Hagley.

Both the Hagley and Halesowen handbell ringers will be performing a series of traditional songs on the night, tickets are £7.50.
