A HOST of golden daffodils are in full bloom for the first time outside Halesowen’s parish church, thanks to the hard work of volunteers and funding from two companies.

Adults with learning disabilities from Halas Homes planted 3,000 bulbs in January with sponsorship from town firms JPM Insurance and Central Telecommunications Ltd.

The project was part of this year’s Halesowen in Bloom and its chairman, Eve O’Connor, said the daffodil display outside St John the Baptist Church was “absolutely beautiful”.

Sher added: “We owe a big thank you to the generosity of the two firms and the work of the volunteers, providing a lasting legacy that will be enjoyed for years to come.”

The town is gearing up for this year’s regional inspection for Britain in Bloom on July 20 and organisers are working hard to recruit water custodians to keep the displays blooming following cash-strapped Dudley Council axing watering services.

More sponsors are also needed to pay for the summer bedding and anyone interested in helping should contact Mrs O’Connor on 0121 585 5495.
