THE Labour Party is under pressure to reopen an investigation into Sandwell councillor Mahboob Hussain after his suspension from the party was lifted.
Cllr Hussain’s suspension was overturned last week after police confirmed they were not going to proceed with criminal charges following an investigation into allegations against the former deputy leader of the authority.
Labour has now received a call from a senior party member in Sandwell demanding Cllr Hussain’s continued membership of the party should be reconsidered because he is unsuitable to be a party member.
This week a dossier about Cllr Hussain was handed to the party’s general secretary Ian McNichol at Labour head office.
When the News put the call for further investigations to outgoing Cradley Heath and Old Hill Councillor John Tipper, he said: "I have full confidence in the Labour Party in investigating.
"It is clear that things have not been right at Sandwell Council for some time. The people deserve better, they deserve transparency, they deserve better."
