HALESOWEN and Rowley Regis MP James Morris is calling for the Government intervention to prevent a repeat of the corruption detailed in the Wragge Report.

Mr Morris has been demanding the publication of the reports since last year and now after reading them has called on Cllr Mahboob Hussain to stand down as an elected representative.

He said: "This report has brought to light serious questions concerning Cllr Mahmoob Hussain's behaviour and the culture of Sandwell Council.

"The contents of the report are deeply worrying and action must be taken to ensure the reports findings are acted upon swiftly and without delay."

He added: "Cllr Hussain especially needs to consider his position on Sandwell Council, as I believe the findings of bullying and coercion mean he should no longer hold public office."

Mr Morris has confirmed he wants the Government to get involved in the affairs of Sandwell Council due to the revelations of bullying and corruption in the Wragge Report.

He said: "I will be writing to the Secretary of State for Local Government to ask what Government interventions can be made to ensure that this can never happen again in Sandwell, and that all those responsible face the consequences of their actions."

Cllr Hussain has continually denied any wrongdoing and was unavailable for comment today.
