A BANNED Halesowen driver who crashed his motorbike moments before police arrived, claimed he rode it as therapy for medical problems.

Father-of-six Dwayne Headley had already been disqualified for three years and given a suspended 14-month prison sentence for dangerous driving.

But Wolverhampton Crown Court was told the 35-year-old went out on the motorcycle he built himself to help ease his problems.

Abdul Rahman, defending, added that Headley worked on the machine to get "things off his mind”.

Headley, of Spiral Close, admitted driving while disqualified, without insurance and breaching his suspended prison sentence.

He was given a fresh two-month jail term suspended for a year, disqualified from driving for a year and ordered to pay a £400 fine.

Judge James Burbidge told him it was clear he had been riding the motorcycle to assist with his mental state but warned him a further similar offence would result in an immediate prison sentence.
