A DROWNING man was rescued from a Black Country canal, after he accidentally plunged into the water yesterday morning.

A passerby called emergency services at around 7.40am Thursday, August 18, after spotting the struggling man in the water adjacent to Vernon Avenue.

Fire crews from Tipton Fire Station rushed to the scene and immediately began trying to get the man out of the canal.

Firefighters used a line throw to drag him to the water edge and then hauled him out.

He was then passed on to paramedics for treatment and was taken to Heartlands Hospital.
