THREE cycling champions were inducted into Halesowen Athletic and Cycling Club's Hall of Fame this weekend.

Twins Stan and Bernard Higginson ruled the time trial track and road racing in the 1950s and Trevor Gadd represented Great Britain at the 1976 Olympics in Montreal.

On Sunday Bernard, now aged 85, was joined by his wife Barbara and Stan's widow Helen along with other dignitaries including Halesowen North Councillor Hilary Bills to unveil a bench in honour of the three.

Chairman of the club David Viner said: "All three riders were inducted into the Hall of Fame were champion riders.

"The twins were extremely successful. They were noted time trial stars of the 1950s being multi national 25 champions and record holders in the days when massed start road races were in their infancy and around 50,000 riders took part in time trial events up and down the UK each weekend.

"Bernard, his wife Barbara together with Helen Higginson the widow of Stan and other family members were assisted by Councillor Hilary Bills to unveil the bench and have framed photographs of the twins which are now on display in the clubhouse."

Mr Viner added: "Also inducted into the Hall of Fame was another life member, Trevor Gadd, who represented Great Britain in the 1976 Olympic Games; Trevor was a noted track rider who rode in sprint and one kilometre events.

"Sadly, the current whereabouts of Trevor, who came from Wolverhampton are not know, it is thought he may be living in Canada and the club would like to make contact with him."
