BREXIT champion Halesowen businessman and musician Tony Billingham is to feature in a German television documentary after the News reported he had ditched the name of his Europa Jazz Band in protest against the EU.

Mr Billingham was “amazed” when the story was picked up in across the Channel from the News’ website.

Speaking from Turkey, where he is currently holidaying, he said the German producer was keen to highlight middle England and the Brexit view.

He will be filmed having a jam session with his jazz band members at Lapal House, the Halesowen care home which he owns.

Mr Billingham founded the Europa Jazz band about 40 years ago and chose the name to reflect the times.

But he became more and more disillusioned with the bureaucratic EU and after joining the Brexit movement and voting to leave in the referendum, he said it would be “hypocritical” for his band to play under the Europa name.

For his first gig after the monumental vote he called the band the All Stars, but said he has not yet settled on a permanent name.

Mr Billingham, who has an extensive classic car collection, will also be filmed visiting the Midlands Luxury Show at the Belfry and at his designer holiday home in Ross on Wye, Gazebo Tower, a Grade II listed 19th century viewing tower.
