MASTER growers displayed their best produce at the 35th annual Colley Gate Gardening Club open show on Saturday.

The Cradley Labour Club Wilson Hall hosted exhibits from 45 entrants – and all came away with a prize.

Among the winners was Harry Adams, who clinched best exhibit in show with his pot leeks.

It was first time Mr Adams, a member of the Midland Pot Leek Society, had entered the show.

Jason Smith gained most points in the dahlia section whilst top marks for chrysanthemums went to Geoff Bagley.

Children’s section winners included William Clay, aged nine, for best vegetable exhibit and Molly Westwood, also aged nine, for her cake.

Club chairman Mick Poultney blamed our “loopy” weather for the number of exhibits being slightly down on last year, but said what was exhibited was of an “excellent standard”.

All the produce was auctioned off at the end of the show, raising £600 which will go towards the prize money, entertainment and food for the presentation night on November 3 at the club.

Mr Poultney added: “I would like to thank the hard work of the committee and volunteers in the morning setting up, during the day, at the auction and dismantling on the Sunday – it’s their effort that makes a good show.”
