FLU season is almost upon us and what better way for those at risk during the wintery months than to get a free jab.

Every year, hundreds of thousands of people see their GP and tens of thousands are hospitalised because of flu, the symptoms of which can be debilitating and last for several weeks.

Adults over 65, those with long term health conditions, children between the ages of two and seven, as well as carers and pregnant women may all be eligible for a free flu jab.

Dr Steve Mann, GP and clinical lead at Dudley CCG, said: “Flu is a highly contagious illness that spreads rapidly through the population. It can cause serious complications for at risk groups.

“This year more children are being vaccinated because we know that they can very easily pick up germs and spread them amongst friends and family members. This vaccination programme helps protect the population.

“My advice for anyone eligible for the free flu vaccination is to get it early before flu starts to circulate in the community.”

The jabs are available now by contacting a local GP or pharmacy.
