HASBURY Community Centre will be cooking up a storm after the Rotary Club of Halesowen and Rowley Regis donated £500 for a new kitchen.

Hasbury Community Association were presented with a £500 cheque from Rotary president Brian Stokes as he was shown the worn out kitchen and heard plans to improve the facilities.

The building, a memorial to the town’s war dead and built on land donated to the town in 1947 by Halesowen Mayor Lionel Rose,

The building was funded by public subscription and is now in the hands of the local community once again through Hasbury Community Association.

Dennis Neville, Hasbury Community Association secretary, said "Our present priority is the refurbishment of the kitchen which has changed very little since the building was erected in the 1950's and is in need of modernisation.

"Feedback from prospective users tells us that the provision of a modern serviceable kitchen would enhance the attractiveness of the building and hopefully this will lead to more bookings.’

Rotary president Brian Stokes said: "We are delighted with the Associations efforts to save the building for the community.

"We are pleased to help out with the funding of a new kitchen and are looking forward to further development in the future."

Cllr Ian Cooper, Hasbury Community Association chairman, said: "We would like to record our thanks to the Rotary Club for their kind and generous donation.

"Improving the kitchen has been a priority ever since the building was handed over to us and the renovation means we will be able to cater to a wider range of users by enabling our groups to be able serve food while they are at the centre."

He added: "We are looking forward to the completion of the kitchen and hope it will benefit all users of the community centre."
