A Quarry Bank driver who killed a young man when he ploughed his car into a wall in Netherton has been warned he faces jail time.

Jamie Wharton, aged 31, of Birch Coppice, admitted causing the death of 23-year-old Timothy Pearson on June 3, 2014, by driving without due care and attention.

Mr Pearson had been a front seat passenger in a Nissan driven by Wharton when it crashed into a wall in St Peters Road.

The case is expected to be finalised this Friday (October 28).

Police have carried out a weapons sweep at Dudley's Priory Park as part of the force's on-going bid to reduce knife crime.

Five officers searched the historic ruins and nearby bushes looking for knives, blades and any other weapons that had been discarded.

The sweep was part of Operation Sceptre, a nationwide campaign to tackle knife crime and also followed three stabbings - including one fatal - that took place in Sedgley, Lower Gornal and Brierley Hill within the space of eight days.

Halesowen News reporter Adam Smith caught up with Conservative hopeful Andy Street CBE who is bidding to become the first West Midlands Mayor.

Prime Minister Theresa May described Mr Street as an "action man" during her speech at the Conservative Party Conference.

But - writes Adam - Mr Street does not look like an action man, in fact he looks the spitting image of my uncle Dick, diminutive with piercing blue eyes.

However, one hour in his company it is obvious this sharp dressed man (his cufflinks had his initials on) has the energy to run Gotham City let alone the West Midlands.

A 10-year-old girl from Bromsgrove has stood up to two of the country’s largest supermarket chains to demand that their “inappropriate” clown costumes be taken off the shelves.

Esme Pettman, of Aston Fields, contacted the Advertiser after spotting the Halloween outfits while shopping with her mum in the Bromsgrove Asda and Morrisons stores.

She was appalled that the companies were still selling the stock in the midst of a “killer clown” craze, where pranksters across the country are dressing up to jump out on unsuspecting victims, often armed with a knife.

A Kidderminster sex offender who downloaded thousands of indecent photographs and videos of children, including some of children as young as four being raped, has been jailed.

Paul Brannan, 49, of Mill Street, admitted three counts of making indecent images of children when he appeared at Worcester Crown Court.

He admitted making 81 indecent photos and videos at class A – the most extreme – 53 at class B, and 3,075 at class C.

A drive encouraging people to leave the car and walk to the shops instead has been launched in Studley.

Following the announcement that Studley High Street would be closed for resurfacing work over half-term (October 23 to 30), Studley in Business have started the campaign called 'Studley Is Open' to shed a positive light on what is anticipated to cause a big loss for businesses in the area.
