ELLIOTT Haydon has always been fascinated by watches since he was a boy.

The 22-year-old from Manor Way in Halesowen used to spend his lunchtimes wandering around jewellery stores and studying watches on display.

He explained: "I worked as a computer engineer technician in Birmingham city centre.

"My office was right next door to New Street, so I'd spend my time peering through various jewellery shop windows - but sadly, I could never afford to buy any of the watches I fancied.

"That's when I got the idea for a fully interchangeable watch which can alter the strap, face, case and bezel."

Elliott has now formed his own company Eldon Watches and believes his design could set a new benchmark for traditional wrist watches.

He added: "I always wanted to form my own company - I just didn't know what it was going to be."

Former Earls schoolboy Elliott has now launched his concept on the crowdfunding website Kickstarter project where potential backers can pledge an amount of money.

Elliott is hoping to obtain over £10,000 of funding and will use the money to pay for the first run of watches.

Fellow director Mark Brown said: "Unlike many other Kickstart projects which will never see the light of day, we've put in over a year's worth of serious work and spent our own money on prototyping and packaging, so much of the hard work has already been done.

"This means that whenever someone pledges for a watch, they can be 100 per cent sure we'll be able to deliver to them if we get funded. Reaching our goal means we can go straight into production."

The pair were overwhelmed when they received over £2,000 in pledges within the first hour of going onto Kickstarter and have until November 23 to reach their target.

Backers can also pledge for a combination kit which will allow them to build and design their own watch right from scratch.
