A HALESOWEN churchgoer caught with indecent images and films of children who took a photograph up the skirt of a schoolgirl has been locked up for two years.

Andrew Day had been invited to the home of the girl's parents for Sunday lunch and he betrayed their friendship, Wolverhampton Crown Court was told.

The 37-year-old was part of the congregation at a Dudley church and he also stole underwear belonging to two women and a young girl from families who had shown him kindness.

Judge Marcus Tregilgas-Davey told Day it was clear he accepted the dinner invitation to gain access to the 13-year-old girl and despite being a man of previous good character he had to be put behind bars.

Gary Cooke, prosecuting, said Day was rumbled by the FBI while they were monitoring child pornography sites all over the world.

They discovered that Day had posted pornographic images of children on a Russian site and when his home was raided police officers seized computer equipment and his mobile.

They found over 200 indecent images of children had been stored by Day together with over 300 films - including a large number in the worst category.

Day, of Olive Lane, admitted six charges of making indecent images of children, taking the photograph up the skirt of the young girl and three charges of theft.

The judge said it was clear he had made the images posted on the Russian site available to other like mind individuals who had a sexual interest in children.

He further made Day the subject of a 10 year Sexual Harm Protection Order and told him he must register as a Sex Offender for the next 10 years.

John Lucas, defending, said Day had put the images on the internet for "personal pleasure" as he described the case as "rather sad."

He made an unsuccessful plea for Day to be given a sentence that would have meant him keeping his liberty so he could receive help and support to prevent any future offending.
