AFTER 50 years of performing at Brierley Hill Civic Hall, Cradley Heath Amateur Operatic Society is moving to Stourbridge.

CHAOS, the Black Country’s longest-established amateur operatic society, have announced that they will relocate to Stourbridge Town Hall where they hope to receive “fresh impetus”.

Group stalwart J. Paul Murdock said: “We are looking forward to the fun we will have in performing at what will become our new home.”

The society’s first show at the town hall will be the borough’s premier production of Dolly Parton’s ‘9 to 5 – The Musical’ in November.

It features a brand-new score by the seven time Grammy Award winning singer and actress, including the blockbuster title song, plus a book by original screenwriter Patricia Resnick.

The show stars three female office workers (Violet, Judy and Doralee) who turn the tables on their “sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical, bigot of a boss”.

In a hilarious turn of events, the trio live out their wildest dreams – giving their boss the boot.

While he remains otherwise engaged, the women give their workplace a dream makeover, taking control of the company that had always kept them down.

Alongside their new home, CHAOS are also looking for new members to join the group, which was originally founded back in 1908.

Paul added: “Even though we are performing ‘9 to 5 – The Musical’, we are always on the lookout for men.

“Our rehearsal schedule stretches from April to November, so there’s more than enough time to put in the hard teamwork that goes into performing even an amateur show.

“We are always keen to highlight the performing talent of the Black Country, but with CHAOS you are part of a family.

“This performing lark is a real hobby and great fun. You could be the next star of the Black Country stage!”
