A PIECE of the Titanic hull and other artefacts from the infamous liner are now on display in Dudley.

The Archives Centre in Tipton Road is hosting an exhibition put together by Andrew Lound, a Titanic expert and author, who has recently written 'RMS Titanic Made in the Midlands'.

The book highlights the important role of the region, including Dudley borough, in manufacturing parts of the Titanic and also focuses on people, both crew and passengers, who were from the area.

The exhibition includes a piece of the hull and glasses and books from people who sailed on Titanic.

There is also an order book, which includes a diagram of part of the ship’s anchor - which was manufactured locally - in addition to information about the costs drawn up for the three anchors destined for Harland & Wolff, Belfast, to be fitted to the RMS Titanic.

Photographs of the anchor being manufactured and leaving Hingley’s in Netherton are also on display.

Councillor Rachel Harris, cabinet member responsible for libraries, said: “We have strong links with the Titanic here in Dudley and I am delighted that we are able to mark this important and fascinating period of history through this exhibition.

“Of course people can also see our links to the Titanic by visiting the replica anchor which is on proud display all year round in Netherton.”

The exhibition runs until May 27.
