MEMBERS of the Colley Gate community are coming together to host a fun day to raise funds for a new piece of lifesaving equipment.

The charity event – which is aiming to raise £600 towards a new state-of-the-art community defibrillator – will take place at The Laurels Private Members Club, in Windmill Hill, on Saturday, August 12.

A rodeo bull, bouncy castle, barbecue, will provide fun for the family, while local singers will be entertaining the crowds from 1pm until 5pm.

Stalls selling toys, handmade toiletries, cakes, confectionary and shabby chic items will also bring in money for the cause.

Organiser Mitch Bolton said: “We have managed to secure funding from the British Heart Foundation to go towards the new defibrillator, but we still need to raise an additional £600.

“We thought a charity fun day would be the best way to do this, as Colley Gate doesn’t have a defibrillator and you don’t know how much you actually need one until it’s too late.

“We’ve had a great response from stall holders and the feedback we’ve received from residents has been very positive so far, as a local fun day is something they have wanted for some time.

“With the raffle and bottle sale we hope to reach the £600 needed and if it’s successful we will look at making it part of next year’s Black Country Festival.”

Once the funding is secured, organisers will install the defibrillator in a location which is accessible for 24-hour community use.

Mitch added: “We are calling on the whole of Colley Gate to support the day. Don’t be shy, come along and join in with some community fun for a great cause.”

Anyone who wants to hold a stall at the event that sells something different to what is already confirmed – costing £20 and a donation of a raffle prize – should call Mitch on 07895 304338.
