A TREASURE hunt around Halesowen’s shops and businesses is once again being organised as part of the town’s popular ‘In Bloom’ competition.

Families will be able to forage and hunt for clues during the next two weeks as part of a series events to promote the town.

Halesowen North Councillor Hilary Bills, who is also a member of the Halesowen In Bloom organising committee, is looking forward to the event, which kicks off on Saturday (July 29).

She said: “This year the families have to find many mini-beasts, including bees, grasshoppers and ladybirds, hiding in shop windows.

“Families who want to take part can pick up a treasure hunt map from the foyer of Halesowen Library before looking for all the mini-beasts around the town centre, wherever they may be found.”

The Family Treasure Hunt will end on Saturday, August 12, and once all of the forms have been returned to the library, the winning correct entries will go forward to a prize draw.

Cllr Bills said: “The Halesowen In Bloom committee want everyone in Halesowen to feel that they are part of our events.

“The treasure hunt is great way to bring people to the town centre as it gives those who might not have come into Halesowen a reason to, as well as visit places they might never have been in.

“When hiding the mini-beasts I liked to pick shops and cafes that people might not have been to before so they can discovered places they did not know existed, whilst having fun and enjoying the great floral displays.

“So get your magnifying glasses out and track down the mini-beasts.”

Halesowen has won the coveted gold award in the regional Britain in Bloom for the past two years and after judges came to the town last week, hopes of a hat-trick are high.

“We are very hopeful of getting gold once again,” Cllr Bills added. “The female judge spoke at the end of our tea party and thanked everybody for doing such a great job. She also said how much she enjoys coming to Halesowen each year.

“Obviously we’re not going to find out if we have been awarded the gold until the results are announced in September, but I would like to think that all the judges had a very good day.”
