THE former school of tragic Kyle Bastable have held a special assembly in honour of the 11-year-old who died in Oldbury last month.

Rowley Hall Primary School paid a heartfelt tribute to the youngster who died after being hit by a lorry at Birchley Island on August 31.

Headteacher Nicola Stanley described Kyle as a “real character” who showed “huge potential”. She said: “We were very shocked and saddened to hear about this awful tragedy.

“Kyle was very popular and got on well with both staff and pupils.

“He worked very hard, particularly in year six and was looking forward to going to high school this September.

“He had a creative talent for design and technology and he enjoyed boxing and golf.

“Kyle took part in the summer year six show, 'Rowley's Got Talent', as an amazing Lionel Richie.

“We held a special assembly to pay tribute to Kyle where we dedicated a poem to him and said a prayer for him and his family.”

She added: “Staff and pupils have been offered support and counselling and our thoughts are with Kyle's family and friends at this most terrible time.”

Kyle was struck by the vehicle near to the Shell garage on Birchley Island in Oldbury just before 10pm on August 31.
