PEOPLE who want to know about planning applications submitted in their neighbourhoods can sign up to Dudley Council’s new alert service.

The authority’s planning department is changing the way it consults with people when applications are received, and as of October 2, residents will no longer receive direct letters when an application is made by their neighbours.

For residents to stay up-to-date with any plans, they would need to sign up the council’s new email system called ‘My Alerts’.

Once subscribed, residents, businesses or any interested people will receive an alert when a new planning application is registered within their selected vicinity.

Site notices will still be displayed.

The alert system is one of a number of changes taking place in Dudley Council’s planning department from October 2, when the authority adopts a new Local Development Order.

Council chiefs claim the order will make the planning process quicker, cheaper and simpler, as long as the proposal complies with the adopted design guidance and standards.

Councillor Ian Kettle, cabinet member for planning and economic development, said: “These changes focus on creating a smoother, quicker and cheaper process for those wanting to make changes to their home, as well as utilising the digital platform in a more practical way.

“In addition, this is a more cost effective way for the council to operate, freeing up time for staff to focus on large scale developments in our local area.”
