SAFETY and security advice will be available during a range of events taking part in Oldbury this week.

Sandwell’s Safer 6 campaign – which brings together the borough’s police, fire and council to provide extra reassurance to residents as the longer nights draw in – will be out and about across the town.

The first stop will be at Oldbury Civic Square on Tuesday (October 3), where residents can speak to police, housing and trading standards officers as well as volunteers from Sandwell Crime Prevention Panel.

People will also be able to get information on a range of subjects, from weight watching to libraries, as well as advice on anti-social behaviour, hate crime and drug education.

Connexions and the Youth Bus will be attending, while the cannabis awareness trailer and fire service's 3D driver awareness kit will also be there.

More information about the campaign is available online at www.sandwell.gov.uk/safer6, or by following the campaign on Twitter using the #Safer6 hashtag.

Councillor Suzanne Hartwell, Oldbury town lead, said: “We hope to see a big turnout for this launch event in Oldbury because we are anxious to reach local people to offer our advice and to provide information on local services.

“I am very pleased that so many of our partners have agreed to attend to provide more information on what they can offer in our bid to improve safety, security and health for local people.”

Tuesday's event runs between 2pm and 4pm and kicks off a range of activities during the week, including surgeries at Rounds Green Library for housing on Wednesday (October 4) from 9am until noon and for police matters on Friday (October 6) from 11am until noon.

Young people will be able to get on board the Youth Bus this evening Monday (October 2) at Langley Youth Club in High Street, Langley, between 6pm and 9pm, and on Friday (October 6) at Brook Road from 4pm to 6pm, giving young people a chance to engage with officers about local services.

There will also be an opportunity for young people to chat about issues with 'open access' sessions outside Rounds Green Library on Tuesday (October 3) from 6pm to 8pm and Wednesday from 5pm to 7pm, and at Langley Youth Club on Thursday (October 5) from 6pm to 9pm.
