AN OLDBURY man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after shots were fired from a car in Birmingham yesterday (Monday).

Police received a 999 call just before 5.30pm reporting a firearm being discharged from a vehicle in Arthur Street, near the junction with Bolton Road, in Small Heath.

No-one was hurt and the area was cordoned off for a fingertip search of the scene.

Officers carried out quick-time enquiries on the car believed to have been involved and stopped a vehicle in St Andrews Road, Bordesley, just after 1am this morning (Tuesday).

The car has been seized for forensic examination and a 27-year-old man is currently being questioned over the shooting.

Detective Inspector Tom Hadley from Force CID, said: “It’s understood to have been a targeted shooting and that the offender knew the intended victim.

“Fortunately no-one was injured but clearly discharging a firearm in public, especially in late afternoon when many people will have been out and about, is a hugely reckless act and could have had fatal consequences.

“If anyone witnessed the shooting or has any information about who may have been involved then I’d urge them to call us so we can bring the offenders to justice.”

West Midlands Police Force CID can be contacted on 101 or people can call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
