CHARITABLE church-goers in Quinton have helped raise thousands of pounds towards a new building project in the Philippines.

Quinton Methodist Church has handed over a cheque for £11,500 to this year’s supported church cause – The David Livingstone Foundation.

The charity has been in existence for 50 years and looks after about 1,500 orphans, children in need and students in Africa, India, the Philippines and Thailand.

All of the money raised by the charity, which is run by volunteers, is spent on the children, and the Ridgeway Avenue church’s donation will help kick start the new Philippines building project – which will be named ‘Quinton’.

A cheque was handed over to the charity’s president Dr Gilbert Cousins by Quinton Methodist Church’s minister, Rev Paul Beetham, treasurer Linda Robinson and project secretary Marie Crump.

The church’s 2017/18 supported cause is the local Haven Community Project, based in Rilston Road, with the fundraising campaign formally launched at the church in September.
