LIBRARIES across Sandwell are holding Remembrance events to honour those who gave their lives in the two world wars and subsequent conflicts this weekend.
Every library in the borough will be putting up book displays, with each town will be hosting a special event.
A coffee morning and talk will take place at Blackheath Library from 10.30am until 11.30pm on Saturday, November 11.
While Oldbury Library will host a coffee morning from 11am until 12.20pm on Friday, November 10, where homemade cakes and refreshments will be available, and there will also be a book and Remembrance display on show.
The library events will precede Sunday’s remembrance services and parades which are also taking place in the borough.
Deputy Mayor of Sandwell, Councillor Susan Eaves, will be attending the Remembrance Sunday service held at the cemetery in Powke Lane, Rowley Regis.
A parade will start at 10.25am from Highgate Street car park, in Old Hill, and make its way to the cemetery in Powke Lane ready for the service starting at 10.50am.
The parade then proceeds to Spring Meadow Social Club.
In Oldbury, this year’s Remembrance Sunday service will be at the War Memorial in the civic square, with the parade due to meet at 10.30am at Low Town car park, before the service starts at around 10.50am.
There will also be a short service and two-minute silence on Saturday, November 11, at 11am in the civic square.
